Melissa Taylor - Lybbert

Hi my fellow Class of 1991 Provo High Bulldogs!

At our last reunion, Brent Orozco asked me to plan our next reunion – so here I am. I am thankful for Kevin Merrell in helping to get the ball rolling a little faster, and to those of you that have offered to help. I have been thinking about the reunion for the past 3 years and so glad to have the technology to help us find and locate so many of you!
During our senior year, I had moved to Springville to take care of my grandpa. I was only at school for a few required classes to graduate and had work experience for most the day. I still remember the day that the “Big Class Picture” was taken – I had not known when it was being taken since I wasn’t at the school very much and drove up right as they were taking the picture. I was actually kind of crushed to not be in that picture. My other memory of our Senior Year, was the Senior Dinner Dance. It was fun to attend this dance with someone from Timpview High. It was a blast and so fun to get to know someone outside of Provo High. The atmosphere on the river boat was amazing and just a really nice evening! And of course, memories of football & basketball games with Pep Band and Band Tours!
Since graduation: I went to BYU and changed majors several times. I served a mission to Brazil Porto Alegre North. The summer after my mission, my aunt from Canada set me up with my now husband, Steve Lybbert. I worked for a summer in Orlando Florida at Walt Disney World and got to speak Portuguese for 85% of the time at my job. Later, I ended up changing my major to Portuguese with a minor in Geography/Travel & Tourism, graduating with my Bachelors Degree. I started my first full time job with Delta Air Lines during my last semester at BYU. My new job helped with my traveling as we dated long distance between Utah and Alberta for 6 years. My husband grew up on a dairy farm, has a license as a professional meat cutter, along with being a volunteer fireman. We were married in October 2002 and we lived in Bountiful for a few years. I took a course and received my Emergency Medical Technician certificate in Utah. We moved to Canada in 2004 and bought just under 3 acres where we are now. It’s a nice little village in Southern Alberta. We will be married 9 years this October. Steve currently works in construction and as a ditch rider for an irrigation district - they construct all the ditches/weirs and make sure the water gets to all the farmers, basically. In Canada, I have worked at an Insurance Agency, volunteered on the Fire Department/Emergency First Reponse, a Bank, as an Education Assistant for the Jr High and High School Bands (even went on Band Tour), a stay at home Mom, and now as the Library Manager of our library.
We have no children of our own as of yet. We are foster/adopt parents and have had 2 girls in our home so far. The first one was a newborn we brought home from the hospital that we had hoped to adopt. She was placed in our home two times and almost a third. We love her dearly and miss her tons more. What an emotional rollercoaster. The second girl was a 7 year old and was with us for 7 months until she needed to be in the city. She was able to come for weekend visits with us and it’s great to have a connection with her. She was able to return to her mom back East in the USA, and we’ll miss her too. For any of you that have Fostered and/or Adopted – our hearts are with you!

Working for Delta had many perks – the best one was being able to fly off to great places and usually fly business/first class for free! I have traveled quite a bit and love it. I went to London England for the weekend, last minute flew to Paris France for the week, Italy for a few weeks, Hawaii and California several times, Phoenix Arizona to go to a dance, back to Europe to cruise from Venice to Florida, San Diego to go on a Mexico cruise, Las Vegas, many trips to St George to visit friends, and Montana or Canada just about every month to date my now husband.
This has been a great adventure planning our 20 year reunion. I really hope to see as many of you as possible at our 20 Year Provo High School Class of 1991 Reunion – Go Bulldogs!

  1. Hi Melissa -- your cousin Bob here (James Comenale's great grand son). I've done some DNA tests that are interesting. My email is the same as ever, so if you want to share sometime, give me a shout! I don't have your current contact info. All the best, Bob

  2. Hello Melissa, I connected with your cousin Bob Comenale about a year or so ago and he says you have more information about the Comenale family line. I matched with Bob as second cousins. I have a family tree on Ancestry.com Let me know if you are into sharing information. Thanks :) Kay
